Sponge City is a new generation of urban rainwater management concepts. It refers to a city that, like a sponge, possesses good resilience in adapting to environmental changes and responding to natural disasters caused by rainwater. It can also be called a "water-resilient city." The internationally accepted term is "low-impact development rainwater system construction." It employs measures such as infiltration, retention, storage, purification, use, and drainage. During rainfall, it absorbs, stores, infiltrates, and purifies water. When needed, it releases and utilizes the stored water, allowing rainwater to migrate freely within the city.
Under the new circumstances, Sponge City is an innovative manifestation of promoting green building construction, low-carbon city development, and the formation of smart cities. It is an organic combination of modern green technologies and social, environmental, and humanistic factors under the characteristic background of a new era.
"Big Sponge" and "Small Sponge"
"Small Sponge" refers to the "sponges" scattered throughout the city in public buildings, residential areas, and parks. Their main function is to buffer and collect rainwater, that is, to "manage water through engineering" and "absorb and release" rainwater, complementing the drainage and flood prevention system. However, their water storage capacity has a certain design standard; excess rainwater still needs to be drained into pipes and ultimately into river and lake systems, which is the "Big Sponge." Jian Guo Waterproofing prioritizes the "Big Sponge" model and actively promotes "Small Sponge." During rainfall, it absorbs, stores, infiltrates, and purifies water. When needed, it releases and utilizes the stored water, effectively controlling rainwater runoff and providing better solutions for urban flood control and water quality purification. The infiltration, drainage, protection, and reuse system is a circulating system that can systematically drain excess water from the high-polymer protective (storage) water-shaped pieces through drainage channels to observation wells, and reuse the collected water in the observation wells. It features integrated prevention and drainage, water isolation and breathability, cost reduction and efficiency improvement, and easy maintenance.
While closely integrating waterproofing and drainage into a unified system, this system also maintains a relatively low water level on the roof, maintains the breathability and permeability of the soil, and ensures the normal growth of plant roots.
